The Best Cafes for Breakfast and Brunch in South Perth
Places to Eat in South Perth
South Perth is slowly becoming my favourite spot in Perth! With the best views of the city skyline, long walking paths and a newly redeveloped foreshore, you just can’t skip past it.
There are so many spots for a good coffee, artisan brunches with sourdough, pub meals and even just a fishbowl cocktail if that’s your thing. Here are a few cafes I’ve been to in South Perth so far, I will keep adding to the list as I tick a few more locations off my to-do list!

February 2020:
Gusto Food Cafe
86 Angelo St, South Perth WA 6151 / @gustofoodsouthperth
We stumbled upon this cafe near Angelo Street Market on a sunny Saturday. We were absolutely starving and popped in at around 1:15pm, just in time before the kitchen closed at 2pm. The place was still pretty busy so they let us quickly order and we picked a two seater table near the front window, perfect for people watching.
I ordered the Vegetarian big breakfast and R chose the Rib Eye. I don’t think you can ever really fault these two, they’re both safe meals that can’t go wrong! Also R’s fries were 10/10.
We’re definitely going back soon to try another meal, although we’ll make sure we get there a bit earlier next time!
Laika Coffee
11 Lathlain Pl, Lathlain WA 6100 / @laika.coffee
I found this place on Urban List! It’s named after the famous Soviet space dog and it’s owned by the same man who owned Hylin in West Leederville. It didn’t take much convincing to get me to Laika as I already love Hylin, it’s on the list for My Favourite Cafes in Perth. You’ll notice some similarities when you walk in, especially the mural to the right when you walk in.
I ordered chilli and chorizo while R had mushrooms and halloumi. Both meals looked fancy and a lot bigger than what we expected. We cleared our plates pretty quickly and I knew I had to add Laika to this list immediately.
We don’t drink coffee but they do roast their own. Urban List says they have Pilates there too! If you pop by this place, make sure you walk out the back and have a sneaky peek at the Basketball court. The more I read about this place, the more I fall in love with it! Read more about it in depth on Broadsheet here.
The Little Banksia
78 Banksia Terrace, Kensington WA 6151
We popped into The Little Banksia on a warm and sunny day in early November for brunch. We chose to sit right out the front but there’s space along the right-hand side and inside too! There are a few rooms that are homely and comfortable.
On my way out, I ended up getting a sausage roll from their display cabinet too. They bake so many good sweet and savoury treats fresh every day! The Little Banksia has Gluten-Free, Vegan and Vegetarian options available too.
Surrounding Areas:
If you’re in the area, these places are close by too! I love finding hidden gems that are a 5 min drive or a 10 min walk away from the usual areas. These are my favourites so far.
Our Ruby Girl
2/61 Ley St, Como WA 6152 / @ourrubygirl
Our Ruby Girl is close to South Perth in the suburb of Como. Close to Canning Bridge!
We only popped into Our Ruby Girl to grab a coffee on our walk and I was so surprised at this hidden gem, I have to go back! The wall near the coffee machine was filled with quirky items, individual keep cups and books. I picked up a bottle of Plant Food to use on my plants (update: they’re loving it!).
I looked into the cafe a bit more once we left the cosy green space. They have a seasonal menu which is super exciting, even more reason to visit. There are so many choices for vegetarians and vegans so pop in and try their options if you love a good menu with these options.
